Shana Kay Memorial Statue Stolen
Saturday, September 27th, 2008The 300lb memorial statue to Shana Kay, who died from contracting viral encephalitis (inflammation of the brain), has been stolen outside a Long Island Library.The bronze statue depicting a girl reading a book on a bench is believed to have been stolen for scrap metal (what a surprise!). The thieves had ripped it from its cement and bolt moorings. Jane Kay’s mom said it’s “a sad commentary on humanity.”
